RagingWire Launches Colo Connect Service to Deliver “Cage to Cage” Fiber Connectivity to Northern Virginia Data Centers

RagingWire partners with SummitIG to become the first colocation provider in Northern Virginia to offer fiber interconnections to facilities in “Data Center Alley”

RagingWire Data Centers, the nation’s premier data center provider, announced today the general availability of its Colo ConnectTM product, becoming the first colocation provider to deliver pre-packaged lit and dark fiber connectivity between RagingWire’s Ashburn campus and data center facilities in Northern Virginia’s “Data Center Alley,” one of the top destination sites in the United States for data center colocation.

RagingWire's Colo Connect Service

“We are excited to formally announce the Colo Connect product for customers in our Ashburn data center,” said Bill Dougherty, vice president of information technology at RagingWire. “Our customers asked for broader access to telecommunications carriers, connections to other area data center deployments, and streamlined data center migrations. Colo Connect turns those requirements into a reality and an advantage for our customers.”

Colo Connect dark fiber connectivity is provided by SummitIG via its underground hardened conduit system. SummitIG owns, operates, and maintains a dense dark fiber infrastructure that spans over 40 contiguous route miles across Northern Virginia.

“SummitIG is thrilled to partner with RagingWire in offering the Colo Connect service, enabling dark fiber connectivity to their customers’ endpoints across our robust network,” said Bill Cook, president and CEO of SummitIG. “Colo Connect is an exciting new product in the Northern Virginia data center market and gives RagingWire customers an advantage in custom network connectivity that isn’t available from other network providers.”

A number of RagingWire customers took advantage of an early release of Colo Connect for 1 Gigabit, 10 Gigabit, and dark fiber connectivity to area data centers and helped shape this service. Preliminary use cases for this service include migration support, interconnections between distributed IT deployments, access to specialized telecommunications providers, and a platform to deploy other network services.

“RagingWire’s Colo Connect service was a significant factor in our decision to migrate our production IT systems to their data center in Ashburn,” said Brent Doherty, cofounder of Enterprise Consciousness for Business Networks (ECFBN). “The highly reliable lit fiber service between RagingWire and our old data center was the key to a smooth transition of our systems, but more importantly to maintaining uptime for our customers that rely on us for cloud and hosting services.”
