RagingWire’s Virginia and California Data Centers Complete SSAE 16 Type 2 Examination with Zero Exceptions

Comprehensive independent examination validates RagingWire’s security and operational controls provided as part of its colocation solutions

SACRAMENTO, California
November 8, 2012

RagingWire Data Centers, the nation’s premier data center colocation provider, announced today that it has successfully completed its latest Statement on Standards and Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE 16) Type 2 examination with zero exceptions, for both its Sacramento, California and Ashburn, Virginia data center campuses. The final report, known as the Type 2 Service Organization Controls or SOC 1, was completed for the period from September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012 for the Sacramento campus and from July 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012 for the Ashburn campus. The examination was performed by Brightline CPAs and Associates, a nationally recognized independent accounting and auditing firm.

“Maintaining our strong operational controls and security policies across the organization is critical to our success,” said Jason Weckworth, RagingWire’s vice president of data center operations.  “Completing the SSAE 16 Type 2 examination with zero exceptions for all of our data center facilities on both coasts gives our customers confidence in their data center infrastructure, operations, and controls.”

SSAE 16 replaces the aging SAS 70 standard and provides assurance that RagingWire maintains appropriate controls and operating procedures as part of its industry leading 100% service level agreement (SLA). This SLA is unique in the industry in that, unlike most other data center colocation providers, it offers 100% uptime – even during maintenance windows. The SOC 1 report covers a full year of RagingWire’s Sacramento data center campus operations, which comprise nearly a half million square feet of colocation space – one of the largest data centers in California. The first two months of operations at RagingWire’s recently completed Ashburn, Virginia data center were also included in the scope of the audit. RagingWire makes all compliance documentation and reports available to customers upon request.

“An SSAE 16 examination is a critical assurance report for customers who host financial applications and other systems which impact that customer’s internal controls over financial reporting,” said Douglas Barbin, principal at Brightline CPAs and Associates, Inc. “RagingWire’s continued commitment to conducting this annual assessment, along with its other initiatives, reflects a dedication to assisting its customers in meeting their compliance requirements.”

SSAE 16 replaced the Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) effective June 15, 2011. There are two types of SSAE 16 audits: a Type 1 audit is a point-in-time audit, while a Type 2 audit is more exhaustive and includes in-depth testing of controls and practices over a minimum six-month period. By engaging an independent CPA to examine and report on its security and operational controls, RagingWire can respond to the needs of its customers by providing an objective evaluation of the effectiveness of controls that address its operations and compliance.
