$20 million investment in Ashburn, Virginia enables innovative data center colocation provider to meet growing demand “coast to coast”
RagingWire Data Centers, the nation's premier data center provider, today announced that its $20 million offer to acquire 75 acres of land in Ashburn, Virginia has been accepted by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. The company intends to build a 750,000 square foot data center in phases on the site. This land acquisition reflects the strong demand for RagingWire’s 100% available, high power density colocation services currently delivered in their 500,000 square foot data center in Sacramento, California and comes on the heels of their new 150,000 square foot data center in Ashburn, Virginia which opened on July 31, 2012.
The acquired land, located on the west side of Waxpool and Farmwell roads and the east side of Ashburn Village Boulevard, is part of a 101.3 acre lot that Loudoun County purchased in 2004 for $13.5 million. In 2011, 18.6 acres were leased to Loudoun County School Board to build Discovery Elementary and 7.3 acres are being used for fields and recreation space. The remaining 75.4 acres, once acquired by RagingWire, will return the property to a tax-paying status which, even undeveloped would yield more than $200,000 per year in county revenue. With the proposed development by RagingWire, this land could yield in excess of $6 million per year.
"With their continued investment, RagingWire is helping to grow high tech in Loudoun County," said Scott K. York, Chairman of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. "This land sale is good for Loudoun and good for RagingWire's customers, which includes top enterprise, Internet, and government organizations. In July 2012 we joined RagingWire to cut the ribbon on their first data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Now we look forward to breaking ground on a second RagingWire data center campus in the heart of ‘data center alley.’”
